The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD) recently conducted a 2-day strategic planning workshop at De Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The event brought together participants from various consortium member institutions (CMIs) to craft a 5-year Strategic Plan.
The workshop served as a platform for NOMCAARRD to harness the collective insights, experiences, and expertise of its CMIs. By pooling their resources and knowledge, NOMCAARRD is determined to establish a clear and progressive path in supporting regional development through research, innovation, development, and extension initiatives.
The first day of the event commenced with registration and preliminary activities. Participants were introduced to each other before hearing a message from the NOMCAARRD Director, Dr. Maria Estela B. Detalla. This was followed by welcome remarks that outlined the rationale behind the workshop, and the Director briefed the participants about NOMCAARRD.
Resource persons were then introduced. The esteemed team of experts includes EnP Richardson T. Cua, EnP Archimedes C. Lazaro, and EnP Al’Gemregy B. Cuerquez, DPA who are from the National Economic and Development Authority-Region X (NEDA-X).
An essential part of the workshop was devoted to reviewing NOMCAARRD’s existing Vision and Mission statements. Participants had an opportunity to update or revise them based on brainstormed idea pillars.
SWOT analysis sessions were also conducted during which strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats were identified by participants through collaborative efforts. Additionally, a strategic planning input session gave guidance on how to create an effective plan using the template provided by NEDA-X.
On day two of the workshop, participants were briefed on the importance of identifying appropriate strategies based on the SWOT analysis. The group was then divided into clusters to discuss and develop strategies which were then presented.
The workshop sessions were expertly facilitated by the resource persons and Mr. Emelgar Christjohn E. Paasa IV, still of NEDA-X, who assisted both the resource persons and participants. Their guidance was crucial in ensuring that the workshop ran smoothly and effectively.
The closing program was an opportunity to recognize the contributions of resource persons and participants by giving them certificates of recognition.
With the successful completion of the strategic planning workshop, NOMCAARRD is poised to continue its pivotal role in driving regional development through research, innovation, development, and extension (RIDE). The collective efforts of consortium member institutions and resource persons in crafting this Strategic Plan will undoubtedly pave the way for a brighter future in the AANR sectors in the region.
NOMCAARRD remains committed to facilitating meaningful collaborations between state universities/colleges and regional line agencies while ensuring continuous progress toward sustainable growth and innovation of the AANR sector in Northern Mindanao.
