DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) personnel headed by Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Chief, Research and Development Division, together with Engr. Ephraim de Gracia, Forester Marie Antonette Berces, and Material Science specialist Audric Zuriel Cruz discussed over DXMU-FM with RJ Trekker, July 25, 2022, 5-6PM the collaboration with the Bamboo Research and Development Center or the Bamboo NICER of DOST-PCAARRD regarding the research undertaking entitled “Field Verification of Bamboo Textile Fiber Technology using Giant Bamboo (Dendrocalamus Asper), Northern Mindanao. They will be working closely in the development of bamboo as a potential source of fiber for clothing and other uses. Diversification in the fiber industry is important as it will provide other opportunities for the farmers to make use of other sources so as not to deplete the abundance of the main source of fiber which is abaca, mulberry, pineapple and others. The Bamboo R and D Program is being headed by Dr. Lowell Aribal.
